If what you mean by "work" is being distracted from your own nervousness, than possibly. You can also distract yourself by screaming at the top of your lungs or running around your audience naked. Of course, your ultimate goal is delivering a great speech not necessarily being calm, and picturing my audience in their underwear is also likely to distract you from that goal. What you want to do instead is focus on your message. You have a job to do, an opportunity—the privilege of having an attentive audience ready to hear what you have to say. Focus on that.

@Bo Bennett: In a casual conversation you often hear people tell others that exact thing, but when it come to being up there on stage, for me it's the farthest thing from the truth. If I picture scantily or unclothed people, I may actually feel uncomfortable or even embarrassed. I may even begin to laugh which may not be a way to make friends and influence people particularly if the topic is of a serious nature. So to make a long story short - NO!
