Celebrating Ceylon Tea - A History Lesson

OK lovelies, it is time for some history and geography lessons.

Next week we will return to learning more about my January adventures to Sri Lanka and more about Ceylon tea.

For now, I’m feeling we need to back up briefly and re-introduce you to Sri Lanka, its geographical location, and a little more of a back-story or history of Ceylon tea.

Based on a few comments made to me by others, there seems to be some interest in learning more about the location of Sri Lanka. - -

No, Sri Lanka is not India! But, yes, it is located near India, just below it in fact. The proximity appears so close on a map, you might think they could be together as one or connected by a strip of land or bridge, etc.  Legends claim that Sri Lanka and India used to be passable on foot, long, long ago, but, I am told, no, there is no way to drive a car between the two countries.

In our Sri Lanka focus blog this week, you may read more about the history and geography of Sri Lanka and Ceylon tea.  The historic information is provided thanks to the Sri Lanka Tea Board.  And brief mention of the geographical location and map are credited to SriLanka.travel / Google Maps.
