NEWS: INDIA - Charity Run at Jalinga Tea Estate to Empower Assam Tea Workers and Children

The first Charity Run at Jalinga Tea Estate, Assam has been announced and the date is set for the 16th, 17th, & 18th of November, 2018.  They are inviting 200 participants and 40 reputed world tea buyers have already confirmed their participation. This event has been conceptualised to showcase a commitment to their people. All proceeds generated will go to the welfare of the Assam Tea workers.

Jalinga Tea Co has been certified Fairtrade since 2013. In collaboration with Fairtrade India, & coinciding with the run up to the Fairtrade Week 2018 campaign, this 2-and-a-half-day event is looking to incorporate tea tasting sessions, tea pairing with food & cheese, yoga, meditation, sporting activities, a music concert, a pop up exhibition showcasing handicraft work of local artisans of the community amongst other things.

The actual run will take place on the morning of the 18th of November, 2018. This has been categorised into 5k, 10k, & 21k for seniors and 1k & 3k for kids.

Any sponsorship or donation is appreciated. Individuals and companies will be eligible to get tax deductions under section 80G.

ABOUT JALINGA TEA ESTATE

Jalinga is the Single Largest Sustainable Organic tea estate in India. It is the first & only Carbon Neutral certified tea estate in the world and is also registered with Atmosfair, Germany for the 1st & only Carbon Credit project ever in a tea estate in the world with a no-emission cooking stove given to all 4000 workers.

Now producing Black CTC / Orthodox, Green, Oolong, White & Matcha Green tea powder etc. On a trial basis they have planted organic herb, spices & flowers at Jalinga & will be expanding on commercial basis next season onwards.

A Small Tea Grower project has been started at Jalinga (70MT 1st year production) & getting it Organic & Fairtrade certified, again a 1st from Assam, offering Green & Orthodox teas. In the next 3 years will scale up this project to 1000MT. They will be introducing biomass pellets to replace coal. This will eventually eliminate their use of coal altogether. They have begun installing solar lighting in parts of their estate and by 2020 aim to have 100% converted to solar energy.
