BLOG: Going to NEPAL for the Third International Tea Festival – April, 2018 in Kathmandu – by Gail Gastelu, The Tea House Times

Can you imagine how excited I am right now? Another lovely trip to experience tea!! But, more importantly, to bring back a first-hand experience –photos, information, educational tools and aids- for further educating readers of The Tea House Times and students of our continuing education website, TeaCourse.com  And, of course, I will be spreading the information in other ways as well.

The National Tea and Coffee Development Board (NTCDB) of Nepal is holding its Third International Tea Festival in Kathmandu beginning April 6 but this year is extra special for a very good reason.

The festival will host high-level foreign delegates, along with tea and coffee entrepreneurs of 13 different countries, and I am delighted to be among them. The event’s purpose is to ‘discover the hidden treasures’ of Nepali tea and the NTCDB will unveil the Nepal Tea trademark from the top of the world (Everest Base Camp). The tea festival will also include an exhibition of a variety of tea produced in the country, tea garden tour and tea-tasting, among other activities.

The 3rd International Tea Festival focuses on Branding Nepal Tea through the introduction of "Nepal Tea Quality Logo" and Market Promotion. The logo is planned to be formally introduced during the program by the Government of Nepal together with National Tea and Coffee Development Board (NTCDB) and in association with Himalayan Orthodox Tea Producers Association (HOTPA),Himalayan Tea Producers Co-operatives (HIMCOOP), Specialty Tea Association Nepal (STAN), Nepal Tea Planters Association (NTPA) and Central Tea Co-operatives Federation (CTCF) in the presence of International Delegates, National stakeholders and concerned organizations of Nepal Tea.

Relatively young bushes, suitable soil, good climate and ideal elevation contribute to the fine production of Nepal tea; a symbol of quality from the Himalayas. Upon my return, I will have more to tell you… much more! Stay tuned.
