BLOG: Ode to the Ladies in PINK – Guest Post by Ruby RedHat, Red Hat Society

Welcome to my blog. Please allow me to introduce myself, I am Ruby RedHat, the official mascot of the Red Hat Society - one of the largest playgroups for women in the world. Our fabulous Sisterhood connects like-minded women and enriches lives through the power of Fun and Friendship!

In my introduction, you’ll notice the absence of the term - “older” women. That’s because the Red Hat Society happily encourages women of all ages to be the best that they can be.  Women under 50 years young wear Pink hats and lavender regalia, and women who have gained the wisdom of 50 or more years don Red Hats and purple regalia.

On that note, our fearless leader, Exalted Queen Mother Sue Ellen Cooper, was delighted to pen this ode to our ladies-in-waiting…  waiting to wear their first Red Hat, that is! We love you, ladies!

ODE TO THE LADIES IN PINK

We met those lovely ladies, wearing hats upon their heads

So lively and so glamorous, in purple, topped with red.

We asked them how they have such fun, and listened when they said,

“My goodness, girls, don’t you believe the stories you’ve been fed!

Life doesn’t end at fifty, nor at sixty are we done!

Now that we’re getting older, we have time to have more fun!

We’re out to find some challenges, some races to be run.

We’re playing hard together.  Yes, our freedom we have won!

We’re happy that we’ve done so much.  We’re looking back with smiles

At all of our accomplishments.  My gosh, we’ve traveled miles!

But now we’ve wiggled free a bit from all those duties piled

And we are out to fill our days with laughter, fun and style!"

They told us we could join them, wearing lavender and pink

While lunching, shopping, giggling, and skating at the rink.

“You’d better lighten up, girls,” they advised us, with a wink,

“because between all women of all ages there’s a link.”

“We’ll show you how to have a ball; we’ll teach you not to wait

To find the joy in living ‘til it’s practically too late.

So, when we plan a gathering, be sure you keep that date.

We’ll teach you all that we have learned, and then you’ll REDuate!”*

Learn more about the Red Hat Society by visiting our website: www.RedHatSociety.com. The Red Hat Society turns 20 this year and we have a hatful of fun in store. Check our SAVE THE DATE page for all the details.

* A REDuation ceremony is held when a Pink Hatter turns the magical age of 50.  She can finally wear her first Red Hat with pride!

RUBY REDHAT is the official mascot of the Red Hat Society.  In the year 2000, a little lady named Ruby appeared, out of nowhere, on the computer screen of EQM Sue Ellen's daughter, Andrea (aka Princess Daughter). Princess Daughter was working on the first Red Hat Society website and when Ruby got wind of it, she just volunteered her services as a representative (mascot?) for the entire membership. Ruby had recently finished compiling her Top Ten (plus one) Rules for Living and she had a feeling that both she and her rules would be able to help the Red Hat Society clarify its members and its purpose to the world. We are all thrilled to have her represent the little girl inside all of us, who is ready and willing to come out and play again in every woman who invites her to do so.
