The Larkin Tea Company is again holding its popular tea cozy competition. In 2019 there were 53 entries from all over the United States and close to 1,000 people from across the world placed a vote.
The annual event encourages knitters of every skill level to compete. The design doesn’t have to be original but must be made by the contestant and created by knitting, crocheting or felting.
This year, as so many people are practicing social distancing due to the Coronavirus, a creative distraction could be the key to help pass the time and keeping the mind active.
Mental health specialists believe that knitting is a good therapeutic practice. For those of us who are ill, unemployed or bored for various reasons, staying occupied is good for the health. The rhythmic repetitive movements seem to put us in the present moment and distract us from worrying about the future. The relaxation response is known to bring down blood pressure and heart rate and help to prevent stress-related illnesses.
This year, the winner will get over $700 in prizes and all entrants will receive a free one -year subscription to The Tea House Times.
