The Larkin Tea Company started the Tea Cozy Competition several years ago to showcase the creativity of the thousands of people who love to work with yarn.  The competition is always held during the long winter months when tea consumption is up and when people tend to knit the most.  What could be a better connection between the two than the tea cozy?

While knitting has gone in and out of fashion for the last 200 years, the early 21st century has seen new interest in knitting. The stereotype of grandmother clicking her needles in her rocking chair is gone. Growth in the hobby seems to be highest among twenty-somethings looking to express their creativity and relax in a way that doesn't depend on technology.  This could be because knitting is thought to act as a natural antidepressant and can help ease anxiety, depression, and chronic pain. (It can also protect the brain from aging.)

Judy Larkin, co-owner of The Larkin Tea Company says, "I particularly like how people of all ages and genders are forming knitting groups as a “face-to-face” activity instead of the isolation of social media that is so prevalent now.  Even better is when the group sips tea while they knit!”

Enter the Larkin Tea Company’s competition for the best, knitted, crocheted or felted tea cozy.

The winner will receive a prize worth over $300 in specialty loose leaf tea, tea accessories and gift items.

PLUS, an autographed copy of Culinary Tea written by Cynthia Gold, renowned tea sommelier and chef.

PLUS, from Bridget's Farm Cart, two skeins of mill-spun yarn from their own flock of Dorset sheep. (Dorset tends to bloom after it is washed and is very resilient.)  Each skein weighs 4 oz. and measures 100-120 yards.

The cozy does not need to be from your own original pattern and there are no time restrictions on when it was made but it must your own work.  Each entrant may submit more than one cozy to the competition.

Photos will be posted on our web site and whoever receives the most on-line votes wins!  Judging is dependent on the photograph, so make sure it displays the cozy at its best.  IF there is a tie-vote, a coin toss will determine the winner.

Closing date: April 30th, 2018

To enter, email a photograph of your cozy to or mail to The Larkin Tea Co., 545 Warm Springs Avenue, Martinsburg, WV 25404.  Photos will NOT be returned.
