About TEA ADMIN

Hey there! If you need assistance, please see our home page and menu to learn how to contact us.

If you are looking to add revenue to your business, whether it is a Tea Room, Hotel, or other related enterprise, you will want to study these exciting trends in a growth industry.

During the past 15 years, children’s birthday parties have grown into a diverse $38 billion industry in the United States alone according to celebration industry analysts. This growth has been sustained during periods of major swings in national and local economies.

The clearest evidence of this might well be the rise of party planning consultants for children’s birthday parties.  These entrepreneurs recognized the trend toward parent outsourcing of children’s birthday parties and seized the opportunity to fill a gap in the expanding kid sector.

Parents are working hard with time at a premium, however, they also want their children to enjoy a unique birthday experience when they are young. It makes sense that they are perfectly willing to pay well to let a professional relieve them of the stress of planning, coordinating, and hosting the event so they can sit back and relax. It only happens once or twice a year, so to derive a level of satisfaction by providing a great experience for the kids is well worth the cost.

Growth in the industry demonstrated that even with a weak economy, parents are still focused on celebrating life’s biggest moments.

Children are Major Influencers of Parental $$ Spending

This might seem a little over the top to some, but as a birthday party business owner, what really caught my attention was an article detailing trends in the industry. It cited a report on child-focused businesses revealing that children today influence approximately $500 billion of their parents' spending!

It is a staggering shift from prior generations and quite an eye opener, but nonetheless it is the way society operates today and indicative of choices parents must make in prioritizing their time between work and family life.

Parents Have a Stake in a Good Party Too

A primary reason given for this trend is that spending on children gives parents a sense of accomplishment in providing unique experiences for their child. So, it is as much about the parents as it is about the kids. This is a powerful dynamic in a business based on feelings and emotion.

People will sacrifice other things in order to spend on their children because they want to make [birthdays] special for their child.

When you take a look at the dynamics driving trends in the industry, you see that it is driven by several compelling factors. Primarily, they are a parent’s desire to see their children happy, a necessity (or preference) to outsource the event for the convenience and stress relief they gain, and, a willingness on the part of parents and grandparents to pay a premium for a once a year celebration.

It is easy to see, if you’re a compatible business, why adding a service catering to birthday parties is a good idea. There are a multitude of party types and depending on your primary business, you can choose a niche which is most complimentary for you. The point is, the field is wide open.

There were approximately 50-55 million children age 10 or younger in the United States today. According to the Census Bureau, this demographic is expected to grow over the next ten years.

Very Favorable Conditions

Based on mid- term trends alone, conditions are very favorable for catering to the birthday party sector for the foreseeable future.

But beyond that, and in the interest of full disclosure, I have been in the Princess Birthday Tea Party business for 20 years. Let me tell you, it is so adorable that it almost sells itself, and has been rock solid for all these years.
