Since this is my blog, I will tell you what I think about the current state of affairs where tea, coffee, and Cannabis are concerned.  (Play nice because I am not looking for a debate; rather to share my observations because many people are asking me about this topic and are not quite sure what to do about it.)

Cannabis. Yup. That. Surely you know many states are approved for recreational use (adult use) and / or medicinal use only on what you might better know in your mind as marijuana. There are many very good things about it to help people with anything from a small health issue or minor illness to a life-threatening disease. No claims here. Just telling you what I have heard.  The latest brew ha ha stirring up concerns the recent approvals related to hemp (yes, that's a form of Cannabis too!). The thing is that the hemp version is higher in CBD with very minimal THC while the other is higher in THC with lower amounts of CBD.  I won't go deep into detail here on the science of it because while it interests me greatly, I am sure you will stop reading after one sentence.  Point being.... if you are seeking something to help with minor ailments and I won't list what CBD claims to fix, but... you will be able to find CBD rich products almost everywhere in the USA now. Some think this hemp thing is all just a distraction while others are full on ready to jump in now as a way into the industry with all kinds of products.

Can you put cbd into tea or coffee, other beverages, or edibles? I'll refrain from answering that point-blank as I am not here to advise you.  I will however, list some resources below for you to research and determine your own direction.

Much of what I have learned came easily past my desk in the form of news. I have also researched a bit on my own and recently attended the Seed to Sale Show which took place Feb 11-13 in Boston.  Put on by the NCIA - National Cannabis Industry Association, I figured it would be a good place to learn more and to help my followers learn too.  On that, I was right.  I even bumped into several coffee/tea companies seeking to crossover into this business or add it in some way to their current businesses.  One exhibitor had a matcha powder drink mix in three varieties: CBD rich, or THC in two different mg servings.

During the Seed to Sale Show, I spent most of my time in classes.... soaking in the science, the processes, learning more about the plant/s and extraction methods and much more.  Alongside this, however, were people. Suits! not Stoners! Yes. I mean that. You might be surprised to know that people in this industry, most of them, come to it for a good reason. . . to help someone who really needs the health or healing (perhaps) properties associated with the different forms of cannabis.

Of course every industry has those who want to help and perhaps a few who go astray, but let's focus on the good and see where this goes. One thing for certain is that anyone already in this for a few years still feels new. They all felt they are still learning and must continue to watch the regulations as they change wildly and often. Some say this will be the industry of our lifetime. Many seem to be hoping it can be regulated similar to alcohol whereby there are rules and restrictions based on age and things like that. I could go on for days on what I have learned, but again.... "It's a new industry for everyone." Just keep watching it on your own. Below are a few resources to get you started:

Dec. 20, 2018 - Statement from FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb, M.D., on signing of the Agriculture Improvement Act and the agency’s regulation of products containing cannabis and cannabis-derived compounds- Today, the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018 was signed into law. Among other things, this new law changes certain federal authorities relating to the production and marketing of hemp, defined as cannabis (Cannabis sativa L.), and derivatives of cannabis with extremely low (less than 0.3 percent on a dry weight basis) concentrations of the psychoactive compound delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). These changes include removing hemp from the Controlled Substances Act, which means that it will no longer be an illegal substance under federal law. . . . read more at link below...

Whatever you do, do it responsibly and in the same way that you would with tea. Do something that connects people, helps people, brings people together in a good way. That's what tea does and I am certain anyone in the tea industry looking to "crossover" will do so responsibly. Remember one more thing - "all things in moderation" - tea too!

For the Love of Tea. . .
