The first five years of show material has been compiled and moved to the book, Reason: Books I & II. From here on in, I will be changing formats to be impromptu and more frequent, both video and audio (no written articles).
I take a critical thinking-, reason-, and science-based approach to answering questions on issues that matter with the goal of both educating and entertaining. You create the show by submitting your questions at http://www.drboshow.com. I have a PhD in social psychology, but I cover a broad range of topics including: Science Education (scientific method, what is / is not science, etc.), Success, Entrepreneurship, Motivation, General Psychology, Social Psychology, Positive Psychology (well-being, flourishing, happiness, etc.), Cognitive Psychology (belief, cognitive biases, memory, our flawed brain, etc.), General Social Science, Critical Thinking, Logical Fallacies, Humanism / Secularism, and Philosophy.
You can read more than you would ever care to know about me at http://www.BoBennett.com. But if you don't care to know more than you would care to know about me, then let me give you some of the highlights. I am a serial entrepreneur who has started and sold many companies over the last 25 years. I focus on building web properties and marketing. I sold my first company of significant value in 2001 at age 29, which allowed me the financial freedom to pursue interests that could have a significant social impact. I passionately studied the sciences, philosophy, and religion. I went back to school and earned my master's degree in general psychology, then my PhD in social psychology. My mission in life (and goal of this show) is to contribute to the well-being of individuals and society by combining education with entertainment.
The "show" consists of the answered questions that I feel are "show worthy." For example, I will never do a show answering the question "What's your favorite color?" The questions that make up the show come from followers and friends on social media, people who post to various online groups I belong to, e-mails I receive, and other sources. I encourage anyone who has a good question for me to ask it thedrboshow.com. In fact, I encourage all viewers and listeners to go to that website, register for a free account, and be an active participant in discussing each show.
Each show is available in text format and audio podcast, with a YouTube video version for most shows. The text is a carefully crafted answer that is usually no more than a few paragraphs. For the YouTube video, I read the text answer verbatim and illustrate the answer using images, diagrams, and text. The audio podcast is the extended version of the answer where I explain the answer in much greater detail, offer more examples, and talk in less formal style (with all the imperfections of a slightly-edited podcast). The podcast is available on iTunes and through other podcast aggregators, as well at thedrboshow.com.
At this time, I don't want to commit to a regular schedule for releasing new shows. I think the popularity will determine the frequency. The more people who listen, the more motivated I will be to get more shows out. As for show length, it all depends on how long it takes to adequately answer the question. The first ten episodes range from a few minutes to about 30 minutes.
Although the answers I give are science-based, this is not an academic podcast where every claim is cited. I don't make crap up, but I also don't find sources for every claim I make; otherwise I could never answer as many questions as I do. I have a very strong grasp of the research in psychology and can speak knowledgeably about many things. However, if I do get something wrong, I would appreciate it being pointed out, and I promise to be quick to correct any misinformation or clarify any sources of potential confusion. What you get from me is something you can't get from Google—I am not a regurgitator of facts; I am a synthesizer of information—information from many disciplines combined with decades of experience that all come together to bring you, my informed opinion.
I love educating and entertaining. Getting positive feedback is the fuel that keeps me going. To me, there can be no greater reward (okay, maybe that and a million dollars). I also still run businesses. I love business as well and despite my pro-social cause side and I am also very pro-business. I teach online courses, and I hope this show will introduce my courses to a wider audience. These courses have both free and paid versions, so I do hope that I get some paid students as a result. But I promise to keep any promotion I do for my stuff at a minimum.
I hope you enjoy the show. Once again, I encourage you to be part of the show by registering at thedrboshow.com, asking questions, and discussing each episode. I'll see you there!
